Congress Must Reauthorize the Prescription Drug User Act VII (PDUFA) by September 2022

The Northern Utah Coalition encourages Congress to reauthorize PDUFA before it expires on September 30, 2022. For 30 years, PDUFA has provided the needed to resources to further strengthen the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) regulatory review and approval process that has enhanced accountability, transparency, patient safety and has helped FDA keep pace with the rapid pace of biopharmaceutical innovation. As a result, FDA has provided patients with more timely access to more than 1,700 new drugs and biologics including treatments for cancer, rare diseases, cardiovascular, neurological, infectious diseases, and others since PDUFA was enacted. Timely passage of PDUFA VII will help modernize the US regulatory and drug development paradigm and will have a lasting impact on the biopharmaceutical industry’s ability to continue to develop safe and effectives medicines for patients.

Clean Slate Utah Law - March 2022

Working to raise awareness of Utah's Clean Slate law and help low-income people clear their records and access opportunity.

Having a criminal record is incredibly common. Any criminal record—even an arrest that never led to a conviction—can be a lifelong barrier to opportunity.

* In March 2019, Utah became the second state in the nation to automate the criminal record expungement process for most misdemeanor offenses.

* Beginning in March 2022, Utah government agencies will use technology to provide relief to thousands of individuals with criminal records.

- Shifts the process burden from the individual to the government.

- Automatically clears misdemeanor A drug possession, most misdemeanor B and C offenses and all infractions.

- Individuals must meet petition-based expungement requirements and be conviction free for at least 5 years.

- Estimated Impact: more than 200,000 people.

* There are 800,000 Utahns living with some type of of criminal record.

* Having a criminal record makes it difficult to obtain housing, jobs, loans and other opportunities.

* Criminal records are digital and permanent unless someone goes through the legal expungement process.
